Date: Wed, 26 Jul 1995 09:24:32 +0000 From: Michael Barnett PRESS RELEASE SEED "Vertical Memory" a new album by PAUL SCH=DCTZE's SEED project. label: BEYOND catalogue no. RBADCD12 format: CD only Release Date 28th August 1995 SEED is a new project from electronic composer Paul Sch=FCtze, previously well known for his film scores and solo albums, including last year's Uzecht Plaush album from R&S and the "Apart" double album which appeared on the Virgin label. This recording sees Sch=FCtze celebrate his tenth album release with an attempt to aurally summarise the evolution of experimental/electronic music over the last decade. " 'Vertical Memory' is a free fall, X-ray, aural spectroscope. It seductively screws around with the atoms of ambient, naming them and teasing them apart. It runs rogue memories across the morphing landscape of aural cinema. It doesn't just set you adrift - it takes you places. It leaves you there. No return to the on-beat." (Reynolds Chase) Unlike most of the current crop of electronica and associated genres, Sch=FCtze uses repetition sparingly- instead his music incessantly unfolds into new soundscapes and shadow forms (or un-forms?). The continuity, however, lies in the sense of perpetual mystery, inviting the listener to visit some unexplored and scary area of the mind, occasionally bursting into lighter and more structured places which give a glimpse of reassuring or liberating familiarity. Paul Sch=FCtze and friends David Toop, Max Eastley and Robert Hanson are preparing a one-off extemporised performance in London soon after this release. "I want people to come out of my music like they come out of a good film; the world has changed just a little bit, your perspective has shifted." Paul Sch=FCtze.
