THE TOKYO TECHNO TRIBE

An documentary film on cyber counter culture in Japan by Ray Castle.

Synopis:

Neotronic Tokyo

A synopsis overview for an infotainment doco on techno culture in Tokyo. Video footage
will be shot in Tokyo, comprising of interviews, environmental imagery, sound bytes, and
music, all linked via a journalistic narrative.
The production style will incorporate cut and paste, slice of life scenarios on the
street, urban scapes, the techno biosphere and interior cyber architecture aesthetics,
sliced with 1st person Œtalking head&Mac226; interviewee/dialogue. The final edited look of this
doco will take on the Œfunky&Mac226; pastiche format of magazines such as ID and Wired. The
general theme and subject matter, will deal with the cyber tomorrow land of techtronic
Tokyo. A utopian neotronic Disneyland in which the ancient tradition of the past is
contrastingly infused with a hyperspatial, accelerated, socio-cultural-cybernetic,
futurism. This story will touch upon contrasting complexities related to Japanese
culture. Its densely populated, urban-shrink-wrap biosphere of highly regimented,
disciplined citizens. All of whom derive immense satisfactions from technology, to the
level of obsessive fetish. This is a society that is intricately synchronised,
bio-rhythmically phased locked and ordered by technology . A formidable cyber-corporate
robotica regimentality, of hyper efficiency, mediated via a highly structured urban
electro envirotech of cutting edge, exotic fad gadgets. Tokyo is a megatropolis
technosphere of eccentric, kinki-thrill-o-matic, virtual reality, escapist infospheres.
Simulacra digital diversions are varied and vast. Machines that mesmerise, entertain and
enthrall, with an allure that have the capacity to teleport a hyperspacial easing of
stress and sensory overload.
This doco will visually depict the electronic, digidelic, surreal contrasts of a neotronic
urbanscape, inhabited by a mass workaholic psychology contrasted with its bizarre,
recreational techno transcendental entertainment infatuations. An ancient futurism:
Theme parks, like huge walk in sets of the movie ŒBlade Runner&Mac226; or ŒSony PlayStation&Mac226;,
virtual reality 3D worlds. The adrenaline pumping escapist, delirious cacophony of
Pachinko gambling, machine parlours. Whole streets full of socially sanctioned punk
rockers blasting amplified music. White collar workers hitting golf balls into huge
driving range nets, on top of soaring skyscrappers. The surreal youth culture fads of the
Harajuku fashion district. The magnetic overload of the latest consumer tech at the vast
electronic emporium city, Akihabara.
Some under-the-skin, shadow aspects of this disciplined, conformist society will be
probed and illuminated by this investigative doco:
Salaryman reading twisted, sado masochist, snuff comics, commuting to work, formally
spruced-up, immaculate in their suits. School girl fixations, bordering on paedophilia.
The popularity of cybererotica and sado masochism. Personal robots.
A growing ghetto of unemployed, disenfranchised, Œbums&Mac226; and Œtrolley people&Mac226; living in
cardboard boxes in train stations, particularly Shinjuku station. Bhuto underground
theatre. The ritual and ceremony of shopping in science fiction like, shopping malls and
department stores, cum museums, like ŒTokyu Hands.&Mac226;....

A synopsis overview for a proposed doco on the following event:
The Equinox, 4 day, outdoor electronic music festival, is the biggest annual event on the
Japanese summer techno calendar. Located in the picturesque Nagano mountain lake district,
this international Asian exotic event is a cyberdelic camp-out of tepees, markets,
performance spaces and sound systems in an idyllic nature setting, and features
traditional tribal drumming, techno DJs, live musicians and future theatre, from
international and Japanese artists. This pyrotechnical production encompasses, state of the
art, audio installations, the latest in technodelic 3D special effects and a myriad
maze of mixed media sculpture, painting and cyber aesthetic installations.
Besides covering the event with audio, visual, interview footage, it will also be spliced
with interviews and material gained from takes done in Tokyo for the proposed doco on
ŒTechno Culture in Neotronic Tokyo&Mac226; .

THE ECOLOGY OF EQUINOX

Equinox means the time of equal day and night. This is around March 21st when the sun goes
into Aries (the cosmic new year) and around September 22nd, when the sun enters Libra (the
half way point of the year). It is the relationship between the Earth and Sun in an orbit
around the evolving galactic centre of the Üniverse. The Anima Mundi.
This metaverse axis intersection of time, space, spirit and matter, marks out the
procession of the equinoxes. The present revolutionary Aquarian age, signifies a
collective spiritual awakening mediated via an ecology of humanistic, transpersonal
technology and a gaian-mind, greening of science.
Equinox techo dance party gatherings, celebrate an experiential celestial electro
communion -- a participation mystique -- with the numinous oneness and
inter-connectivity of creation. A lunar/solar journey from dark into light with the
ascendance of sunrise. Redemption and order out of chaos. A quantum quick step --
excellerated consciousness -- reconnecting with the instinctual cosmic realm and its
eternal cycles of becoming. A psycho-spiritual healing. A rebirthing peak experience,
where the separated self dissolves and morphs into a group-fusion. A dynamic
meditation, synchronised rhythmystecally, into a yin-yang, yantra-mantra. A cyberdelic
social alchemy, that is
shamanarchically ritualised into a non-hierarchical event. The underground, new-age,
hippie traveller cult, with its exotic, escapist, cyborganic, aesthetic, has redefined
the techno rave dance space as an autonomous -- safe zone -- sacred space, within which,
to synergistically explore oneself through a transpersonal dionysian drama of hypnostic
beats, art, and nature.
A shared tribedelic resonance. An enviroteque elixir of groovology. The hyperspatial
energy flux that allows the dancer to access psychedelic portals into transcendental
bliss states.
