v3.0
The
fourth album introduced another slight direction change. The Soundtrack album
as some people refer to it held 6 long tracks each with a theme. Paul stated "In
Sides was meant to be a dance album" but Phil added "But when we come in the studio
to record , we dont switch off from our lives". The mood of the boyz when they
created "In Sides"
appears to have been a frustrating depression. Their moods have transcribed brilliantly
onto the tracks.
Highlights
are "The Girl With The Sun In
Her Head" which was dedicated to Sally Harding
who tragically died in December 1995. Probably the most uplifting track they have
created and one of my personnal favourites of all time.
"P.E.T.R.O.L"
which was a spooky jungle track. It was used in the Playstation game "Wipeout".
"Dwr Budr"
which again is one of my personnal favourites of all time. Composed with the infamous
oil tanker disaster off the coast of Wales (Dwr Budr = Dirty water in welsh).
features reversed sampling of the Mysterious Auntie which on top of the moog synths
sounds moody and eerie.
"Out
There Somewhere" which totals 24 minutes of excellent
theme music. This is the proof that soundtracks is what Orbital do best.
