From: csypgw@scs.leeds.ac.uk Date: Sun, 4 Jun 1995 09:56:06 +0100 Delerium are Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber, of Front Line Assembly fame. Delerium is their "ambient" side project; at least, fairly ambient. Delerium have, to date, released 8 albums, 1 EP and 1 single. They are a tad schizophrenic; most Delerium afficionados agree that perhaps a different side-project would have better suited some of their work. Still, the first major Delerium style is dark, tribal, quasi-industrial ambience. Faces, Forms and Illusions, their first LP, tends towards the middle east in its meanderings; Stone Tower, Syrophenikan and Spiritual Archives have a more medieval feel. Morpheus, their second album tends more towards industrial dance, and as such would have been better suited to the FLA alter-ego. Also, the "Euphoric" EP is a strange mix; the first two tracks are considerably more upbeat, but the other two are long, slow ambient pieces. Delerium's "second phase" can be seen in the Spheres CDs. Entitled Spheres I and Spheres II, these tend towards more of a spacey feel. Notably, Spheres II has a distinct Kraftwerk/J M Jarre feel; also a rather cheesy acid house/nasty synth ending. Finally, Delerium's only main departure from form is the Semantic Spaces album. Sounding almost *exactly* like Enigma, in the words of Bill Leeb, this album is "an attempt to make money". Certainly, it isn't like any other Delerium - and it isn't that good to be honest. A related CD has also appeared recently; although "not" the work of Messrs Leeb and Fulber, Synaethesia's `Embody' is believed to be a collection of tracks that weren't good enough to get on the last couple of albums. It's sort of Delerium-by-numbers.
