Date: Fri, 29 Apr 94 12:20:38 EDT Subject: TaDream sampled Really-From: "Mike J. Brown" I was unable to find out any more information on whether Pete Namlook sampled Tangerine Dream. The people I contacted who have a lot of the FAX label releases weren't familiar enough with Tangerine Dream to be able to say for sure where the TaDream samples are, if any. I'd say it's highly likely that they show up somewhere in the immense FAX catalog. I remembered some other samples I've run across, so here's the whole list so far: Fortran 5: "Crazy Earth (Music for Ice Caps)" 91 contains a looped sample from the Risky Business soundtrack. I don't recall the title of the source track. this mix was done by Fortran 5 collaborator and Orb member Kris "Thrash" Weston, who apparently now has an account on the Internet. Inner City: "Praise (Future Sound Of London Concept Dub)" 92 contains a looped sample from "Love On A Real Train". the sample is present through more than half of the song. this mix was done by the Future Sound of London (obviously). The Future Sound of London: "Papua New Guinea (Hamish MacDonald mix)" 92 contains samples from the opening portion of "Movements of a Visionary" this mix was, of course, by Hamish MacDonald. David Holmes: "Johnny Favourite" (2 mixes on the single) 94 contains at least 3 looped samples from the album Poland and 1 looped sample from the beginning of the second portion of "Thru Metamorphic Rock". the sampes are present through most of both mixes of the song. "looped sample" = the sample is played repeatedly, end to end, over and over, redundantly, and again and again, etc. If I missed something, please forgive me. Someone sent me info on another track containing Tangerine Dream samples, I think, but I lost their mail. I'm not maintaining any sort of database for this; I'm just posting it for those who might be curious. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Apr 1994 22:56:32 -500 (EDT) Subject: TaDream sampled Really-From: Gabriel Yedid One of the rave DJ's at the station played something by a dude who calls himself "NUT E-1" today. It had what I SWEAR was a looped sample from "Trap Feeling" (_Thief_) and some long ahhs and yells that sound like they could have come right off the "Gyorgi Ligeti" section of Rubycon pt. II, if not directly sampled from one of Ligeti's own works. Gabe
