Voice Of Eye CD: Mariner Sonique (92) Many self-produced tapes, distributed by Cyclotron Industries, the folks who distribute the CD as well. Everybody in the industrial/experimental community seems hell- bent on comparing these guys to :zoviet-france:, and I have no idea why. They use some of the same sound-processing techniques, but their sounds are completely different. Voice Of Eye make many of their own instruments, and follow a free-form compositional style. The results are dense, meandering washes of sound. The only organizing principle behind their songs seems to be which instruments they choose to use and how they choose to process them. Which is not to say that their songs sound similar. It's startling how much variety there is on their CD and tapes. The addition of almost-traditional percussion in some songs gives them an oddly jazzy feel. If Ridley Scott made a _Blade Runner_ about cave people, gave Vangelis 1000 mics of prime LSD, and locked him in a closet with some cowbells, a flugelhorn, and a bunch of PVC tubing, the result might sound like this. Whales singing cabaret tunes.
