Date: Mon, 22 Sep 1997 15:03:32 -0700 From: someone at geffen.com I thought I'd give you some information on Young American Primitive (Greg Scanavino). "African Cosmopolitan" is due from Geffen on January 27, 1998. There should be a "Beyond" single available in November. Why has this taken so long? The recording took a very long time and Greg spent another long stretch developing a live show (which premiered this summer in the Sasha/Digweed tent at the Phoenix Festival) and producing a video for "Beyond." The video was created in partnership with SF's Minds Eye Media and is truly spectacular. As for the Zoe Magik album, we've made efforts to reissue it on Geffen, but there are unresolved sample clearance issues with the film studios that control the dialog used on most of the tracks. I am still optimistic that we'll get this sorted someday. [I received this info from an A&R rep on the date above. Despite the promises, Geffen never released anything by Young American Primitive, except for the track "Y.A.P. (Angels Hand Mix)" on the compilation "Global Grooves" (Geffen GEFD-25102), released May 20, 1997. See http://www.geffen.com/globalgrooves/ for info. Information on the "Beyond" video can be found at http://www.mindseyemedia.com/ I did get an advance CD of the album (no, you can't have it) and quite frankly, it stinks. If you are in love with his first album or his compilation appearances, be satisfied with them. --Mike Brown]
