11. Who is Drexciya?<< prevnext >>

Wouldn't you like to know?

Amazingly, even with the power of the Internet ... this is one of the best-kept and longest-standing secrets on the list.

Like Prince Namor before them, Drexciya are a modern undersea myth. Except here, the lore of an undersea culture and a militant, almost vengeful stance towards surface-dwellers is transformed into striking electro music.

What we do know is that they are one of the most imaginative acts to exist within the universe of 313-related music. For the most part, their identities remain secret, but they are linked to Detroit in a number of ways. The first being their catalog -- the bulk of it was released on entities under the Submerge umbrella (no, that wasn't a water pun).

The seamlessness of the Drexciyan mythos is undoubtedly why the members of the group are unknown to most for so long. There are also several artists with similar-sounding styles that confuse the matter. They include, but are not limited to: Dopplereffekt, Elecktroids and Japanese Telecom.

Again, we said similar-sounding. The three aforementioned acts share more traits between each other than they do with Drexciya. We can't think of a lot of music that sounds like Drexciya ...

If you really must know, wade through the archives. There are bits and pieces of information throughout. But then again, this is the Internet, and none of the posts have been authenticated by Drexciya or Submerge. Draw your own conclusion.
