It only did if the members were arguing about something. If not it's
always been light on traffic but strong on information. I dropped off
the list for a few years but I don't think the compilations
ambient@hyperreal.02 is a really good compilation though and you should
be able to find a copy for sale still. Don't know how many from the
comp are still active on the list. I am as of recently anyways.

I love Norman Records updates.? And not just because they like Infraction releases.? They're highly entertaining to boot.? A good case in point in this
small review/state of affairs below.? Heaven is an obscure Russian ambient reissue and crumbling cookies.??
At any rate, we sent them over the new Parks "Umber" CD and they had these nice things to say about it :

"We always await a new release on Infraction with great excitement here
at the towers. The labels output always brings a calming, soothing
atmosphere to the office which is fantastic as it gets a bit chaotic
here sometimes. So here is the latest offering on Infraction and it
comes from Parks (Igor Bystrov) and to be perfectly honest 'Umber' is
an absolute fucking stunner. This is a reissue of an obscure Russian
album from 2000 on Zvezda Record. The sound of distant trains create
hypnotic rhythms while heavenly strings and ambient sounds and
shimmering drones just grab my heart and wont let go. Listening to this
has given me goosebumps. 'Topaz' is a perfect track and an immediate
classic for me and I don't say that lightly. It has a kind of nostalgic
melody reminding me of a golden era in electronic music / early
ambient/ chillout sharing late nights with friends and just completely
immersing myself and becoming lost in the magical beauty of music and
sound. A mighty fine album and limited to just 300 copies. So I've got
back home from a hard days work and after putting the kids to bed the
first thing I do is pour a glass of wine and revisit 'Umber' by Parks.
Listening to these tracks on headphones have had a profound effect on
me. I'm literally melting into my armchair as I write these words. This
is a lot more "musical" than much of the more drone based current wave
of ambient music. Big up to Infraction for digging this one out of the
vaults. ( Just paypal $10,000 to ant@ambient_bribe.com ) I can't
believe that my radar missed this masterpiece first time around. If
you're one of the lucky people that will have this music in your lives
then I'm sure it'll be something you will treasure. Okay so now I'm
gonna peel myself off of the floor and pour another glass of wine. Igor
if you're reading this then thank you so much. Your sounds have really
touched me. Timeless stuff, a real gem in the Infraction catalogue and
an absolute joy to behold... Now my lovely lady has just given me a

Subject: (amb) Star's End - Kwook: Skywave review

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

This just in. Review of Kwook: Skywave (Blue Oasis),=20
and some tracks this weekend on Star's End radio.

---------------------------

At first, it's hard to say why SKYWAVE (57'47"), the CD by Kwook,=20
sounds so nostalgic. Is it the occasional Mellotron sound? The=20
buzzing lead lines or sweeping synth pads? Or just the overall=20
electronic aura that seems to engulf this album? All of these=20
qualities (as well as a hint of IDM beats) and more make for a=20
captivating release. But it's more the positive attitude of this artist=20
that gives his music its nostalgic feel than any riff or melody.=20
Comprised of subtle yet beautifully varied tracks SKYWAVE=20
glows in transfixing simplicity. The piece "Sunspots" is a=20
standout. With its catchy bassline and melodious flute, it=20
produces an ample amount of momentum and intrigue. A=20
common thread throughout is the insertion of squelchy=20
short-wave radio fragments. These lost communications add the=20
sensation of floating through the ether and are used to great=20
effect in the lengthy title piece, which spans three tracks at the=20
end of the disc. Our friend Kwook believes that "sound is a=20
playground". His inventive approach, full of joy and clarity, makes=20
the journey new.=20

Tune in to STAR'S END this weekend for music from SKYWAVE=20
by Kwook

Subject: Re: (amb) Re: Fax Label | DTS releases

I bought two of the Move D and Namlook Raumland CDs, and I don't use the
DTS discs. I don't even have a stereo.
I copy my CDs as FLAC and listen to them on my computer. I haven't had a
stereo for about 2 years since my old one
broke.

...the box set of Wolfgang Voigt's Gas CDs is coming
out? There was an announcement a while back about the
release date being sometime in May but I can't find
anything else about it online.

...the box set of Wolfgang Voigt's Gas CDs is coming
out? There was an announcement a while back about the
release date being sometime in May but I can't find
anything else about it online.

Subject: (amb) Colourform - Visions of Surya on Virtual

Haven't heard anyone's take on the new disc on Virtual (ISHQ/Ishvara/etc.) label.? But I received this
info. sheet from them which included a link to an mp3 demo collage from the album :

' Visions of Surya ' is the 3rd release
on Virtual? , a record label releasing
limited edition

immersive ambient music and works of Ishq
.This release was Co-written by Jake Stephenson

and Matt Hillier from Ishq? under the guise of Colourform , a project
they had been working on

since 2002 .

?

The album has a magical eastern quality
to it and was written as a series of pipe dreams

experienced by someone travelling in a
strange exotic land . Exotic and otherworldy the album is a musical magic
carpet ride.

?

Sadly Jake Stephenson moved into the
invisible world himself sometime ago so we dedicate

the album to Jake and in memory of his
colourful imagination and spirit.

A Demo mp3 collage of the album is
available here.

Subject: (amb) 05.08.08 > THE PiNG co-presents the Deep Wireless Trans-Local Mash-up

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

. Thursday May 8 @ 8pm ($5) THE AMBiENT PiNG in collaboration
with New Adventures in Sound Art and angelusnovus.net
presents the Deep Wireless Trans-Local Mash-up
  @ Gallery 1313 (1313 Queen St W) & IndexG (Gladstone Ave.)
& the NAISA space (103 Beaconsfield Ave)

To commemorate the 5th anniversary of the Deep Wireless radio art
compilation CDs, it's a Trans-Local mash-up with angelusnovus.net
(@ IndexG), iNSiDEaMiND (@ Gallery 1313) & NOiNO (@ NAISA space)
plus more. These Trans-Local performances will be streamed to and
transmitted from the NAISA space in Toronto and broadcast live in
New York and on the net at http://www.free103point9.org

For this event, each of the artists will be spinning and manipulating
the content from the Deep Wireless CD series. The sounds created by
angelusnovus.net (Monica Clorey, Emilie LeBel, Henry Ng, David Ogborn,
Jason Stanford, Chris Thornborrow, Hector Centeno, Troy Ducharme and
others) from IndexG will be mixed with the sounds of iNSiDEaMiND from
Gallery 1313 and then beamed into the NAISA space where the NOiNO
aggregate (James Bailey, Matthew Poulakakis and Jamie Todd) will
heap on the final mash to the mix before it's transmitted to the world
via free103.9.

Come on down to Queen West West / Parkdale, wander about and pop
into all three of our live spaces to experience live radio art in the
making.

If you can't make it down, tune in on Thursday at 8pm EST to

I've only listened to it once, and it was a positive first impression. I would agree with Jacob, if you like the other material released by virtual, you will probably like this release.

List - Have not been keeping up with the Earth Mantra net label as much as I would have liked to recently but have just finished listening to the above piece. A really nice slow ebb and flow feel with a very gentle pace that despite its length never bores or (appears at least) to become repetitive. There is just enough change to keep more than an interest in the entire piece. The foreground lapping shores are nicely done so that it doesn't feel like a "sleep aid". I listened to the 45 minute version but there is a longer 70 minute piece that I intend to look up.

Would be interested in other views from anyone who has heard this piece. Certainly recommended from me for what that's worth.

  Cheers,
  bmc
