June 20th, 2000 Profane Existence Magazine is Back from the Dead! Like a bolt of lightning from the clear blue sky, inspiration has struck to restart publishing Profane Existence Magazine. Profane Existence is an international anarcho-punk resource magazine, started in 1989 and published which was once believed to have the "final issue" in December 1998. The "end" of the magazine was brought about in 1998 after the former Profane Existence Collective was beset by huge financial and personnel setbacks from which the remaining members could did not believe they could recover from. Now more than a year a half later, several former collective members (including collective founder Dan Siskind) have formed a plan to bring back this invaluable resource magazine for the politically active and anarcho-punk movement. CHANGES: Time for reflection over "what went wrong" has lead us to some important changes in the magazine: FREE DISTRIBUTION: The magazine will be free of charge in stores and small distros all over the world. Distribution of will be handled by Blackened Distribution (run by two ex-members of the PE collective) which will ensure it receives the worldwide reach it formerly enjoyed. Prepaid bundle prices will be posted (cost of postage only) and cost of shipping bundles to "third world" and war torn areas, as well as free copies to individual prisoners, will be figured into the over all budget of the magazine. This is an effort to not repeat the years of people hours spent by Profane Existence trying to collect small debts for zines, much of which was still unpaid well after the collective ceased operations. It also means the cost of distribution will be shared by the local scenes with donations to those who distribute locally strongly encouraged. Subscriptions will not be sold, but people will be able to pre-order the next available issue by sending the appropriate amount of funds to cover postage. INTERNET EDITION: With the proliferation of the internet, we plan to also publish simultaneous internet versions of Profane Existence #38. This will consist of both and .HTML "web edition" as well as a .PDF download of the printed magazine. Both internet editions will contain all of the content of the printed magazine, including the ads (to help cover the cost of the printed magazine). The internet editions will be published on the website of the former collective at www.profaneexistence.com and will be accessible free of charge. FUNDING: Primary funding will come from ad sales. The cost of printing and shipping will be directly related to the over all size of the magazine, but there are some costs which remain a constant (bulk rate permit for example). If a large number of ads are received, the number of pages can be increased as well as the number of copies printed. We estimate that a 40 page magazine will cost around $2000 to produce and distribute 10,000 copies, but hope to increase the size and number printed if funds permit . To cover this cost we have calculated that the new Profane Existence will have the most expensive ad rates of the DIY movement, but a small sampling of former advertiser have unanimously stated they would be willing to pay more to see the return of Profane Existence Magazine. CONTENT: The content of Profane Existence Magazine will remain virtually unchanged from the former magazine: News of protest and resistance from around the world, interviews with bands and activists within the punk and radical movement, letters, music and print reviews, and relevant articles. Likely to also make a comeback is the columns sections, depending on availability and schedule of former columnists and new recruits. Already lined up for the next issue is a lengthy interview with the band Aus-Rotten, whose recent show in Minneapolis helped contribute inspirationally to the decision to bring back the magazine. STAFF: At this point the editorial and writing staff consists of those former PE editors who remain in Minneapolis and hopefully from some who have also since moved away. Right now help relaunching the zine has been pledged by Dan, Joe, and Kerry of the former collective, plus the prolific Felix Von Havoc. We expect to receive more assistance as news of the relaunch spreads and we are able to contact more former collective members with the news. As is customary, all labor involved with the publishing of Profane Existence Magazine is contributed on a voluntary, non-compensated basis. WHEN: We are not alone in the feeling that every day without Profane Existence is another day of missed opportunities, building disillusionment and a loss to the movement. We are therefore rushing issue #38 into publication at an extremely accelerated pace. The deadline for ads and printed contributions has been set to Monday, July 3, with the publication going to press on July 10th, and shipping will begin on July 17. Specifics as to distribution will be worked out over the next couple of weeks. REVIEW POLICY: Because of the very short length of time to prepare the next issue, we are not requesting people send review material at this time, simply because we will not likely be able to find reviewers to handle it before publishing time. All review stuff received will be held over for issue #39, but as always, we will not guarantee that we can review every item sent to us. However, we are all still very active in the movement and will pull recent material from our own collections to make up the review sections for the long overdue PE #38. There are many more details yet to be worked out as Profane Existence #38 is hastily rushed towards publication. We are seeking contributions of words, labor and even money to get this thing rolling again as quickly as possible. If you can help in any way, please let us know. For the time being, please contact us c/o Blackened Distribution (we're usually in the office around 10 am 4:30pm CST, but can be reached via email at any time). Still here and still angry! Dan and Joe ex-ex-Profane Existence PROFANE EXISTENCE #38 Advertising information Payment must accompany all ads. All ads must be black and white camera ready (i.e no "films" or computer files). Checks and Money orders should be made to "BLACKENED DISTRIBUTION" DEADLINE: All ads must be received no later than July 3rd, 2000 Please call or email ahead if possible so we can make considerations for your ad in the layout. April 2000 the list started. Now, its july and we are still fuckin' people off, chippin teeth, BLOWIN SPEAKERS and pissing all over venues (that fuck our friends over...) DRAMA: I will not get into it... 07/11/00HARDTOTHEKORE: Was a total fuckin success. All the DJs played there full sets, and the energy was HIGH! The night started off with the left channel on the mixer not working. No one could fix it so i asked the "sound guy" if we could just use the 2 DJ monitors, and the right stack. This happend right before NAHAs set. REWIND: Johnny Victory was the first DJ. He created a special blend of power noise beats and ...well... noize. The first guy i talked to (from the bar) Said "You know that we are supposed to cut it off if it doesnt fit in with our ambiance" and "If no one shows up we are going to cut it off way early" and "Can you turn it down!"... I said "Why didnt you tell me this shit a month and 1/2 ago!?!" and "Fix the fuckin stereo!" and "We need more drink tickets" and "All i want is for the DJs to play there full sets" (and more drink tickets). So, i ignored it and proceeded as planned. During his set i got several calls from the booking agent. Complaints from a certain kunt bartender, and comments from another staff member of "Too experimental for the club". Got CIA about 1 phone call every 12 minutes. A note from KUNTtender (on the first call) NOTE: YOU SUCK! (as i picked up the phone she placed it in front of me). (A=Agent/CIA=D.J.C.I.A.) A= Hi! how are things going?!?! CIA= Well, i got a sound system that doesnt work. I got some little girl writting me high school notes, and i feel as if i should pull out of your club. A= Well... I was wondering if you could get a DJ not so experimental on stage. The staff feel that its not our club. CIA= OK, he will be done in about 15 minutes and then the next DJ goes on... A= Good, i will be down there in a bit. Do you think allot of people will show up. CIA= YEs.... A= etc. etc. CiA= etc. etc. BYE... So, DJ fissionchips gets on the stage (we first met at woodinville steel cage). Plays a GOOD set of hardkore, and gets people moving around. People fuck with the system as he plays, and nothing gets fixed (ask DJ fissionchips for full details). . THIS HAPPENED RIGHT BEFORE NAHAs SET: So he gets off, NAHA gets on, and a whole mess of people show up and we now have a fully moving dance floor. Bartenders are very busy, and people are drinking. Nobody has a problem... NAHA spins her special brand of dance hardkore/hip-hop mix. The club staff like this at first and then they realize its hardkore again (HArhahahhahaaaaa!) NAHA was getting warmed up and some JOCKO (once again) is buggin her. JOCK: HEY! can you play some latin house! NAHA: NO...... This is a hardkore party. JOCK: Well, if you were a good DJ you would play latin house. Me and JV realize that NAHA doesnt know this guy and we escort him off stage (ask NAHA for full details). I turn up the mix and NAHA goes off... During her set a guy from Scottland was just walking by and heard the hardkore, and came right in! He asked where are all the hardkore parties at. I said Seattle has a ways to go before we get anything like UK or Scottland clubs. We have parties where we can and usually we never get invited back. :) A few people were outside waiting for busses or just going about there business. Some stood infront of the club to get a better listen. I gave em the URL to contact us. etc. etc. etc. So i take a piss before my set and someone already smashed up the MANs room. I go on stage and everything sounds like a Bloody fist or Crapshoot record (lo-fi distorted and crackely). I could barely hear what i was doing. Everyone who was left enjoyed my 1 hour 15 min Powerspeedbrutalitykore set. I was having allot of fun myself, and the blown speakers made my records sound spectacular. It was like a whole new set of records filtered with fantastick distortion. Everyone flipped out and ran around. Some even found a way to dance to it!?! Of course the club staff wanted me off ASAP, and wished at that point they never met D.J.C.I.A. After my set allot of people said hello/good bye. I met some new additions to our scene from CHICAGO, SCOTTLAND and SEATTLE. Everyone who attended had a good time, and anyone else can FUCK OFF! This is HARDKORE! Its not HOUSE you KUNTZ! One rule of hardkore: Never sign anything! I was NOT responsible for anything that night, and i signed nothing! I will NOT take any harassment from anyone about this event! I do NOT take any resposiblity for any persons injured or handicapped by/at this event. I do NOT take any responibility for any lost, stolen or damaged property. I will NOT accept any bills, fines or threats. Nor does any other participater in this event. Threats result in 3- 1 minute rounds of Ju-Jitsu style fighting with your favorite northwest hardkore DJ of your choice. If your hardkore DJ does not wish to fight you a new match will be assigned to you with diffrent NWHK DJ. ;) Please send me your reviews of 07/11/00HARDTOTHECORE SEATTLE, WA. -D.J.C.I.A. http://www.nwhrdkore.com djcia00@hotmail.com ICQ# 77986895 ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: darkstep-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: darkstep-help@hyperreal.org From darkstep-return-480-archive-darkstep=hyperreal.org@hyperreal.org Thu Jul 13 08:47:23 2000 Return-Path: Delivered-To: archive-darkstep@hyperreal.org Received: (qmail 14166 invoked by uid 250); 13 Jul 2000 08:47:18 -0000 Mailing-List: contact darkstep-help@hyperreal.org; run by ezmlm Precedence: bulk X-No-Archive: yes list-help: list-unsubscribe: list-post: Delivered-To: mailing list darkstep@hyperreal.org Received: (qmail 14146 invoked from network); 13 Jul 2000 08:47:17 -0000 Message-ID: <396D84F1.71388448@direct.ca> Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2000 01:59:29 -0700 From: colin Organization: http://mediacore.org X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.5 [en] (Win98; I) X-Accept-Language: en MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Bcc: Subject: [darkstep] Hardwired Update (7.22.00 -Portland,OR) LucyFurr wrote: > > Hey folks, there has been a few changes recently to the dark party, so i > thought id post the updated info. > See yall there! > > Hardwired > > Portland, OR - July 22nd, 10:00pm - 6:30am > $7 at the door- Limited Capacity > Free water at the door, please do not bring alcohol!! > The venue is the Temple of Sound > Argon lasers provided by KES Lasers > Email info@templeofsound.com for questions, directions etc. > > Upstairs: > > Burn (Industrial, Powernoise) -PDX- > Tronic (Hardcore, Hard Techno) -PDX- > Elroy (Dark Jungle) -SEA- > DJ Treez (Dark Trance) -SEA- > Brahman {Dark Hard Techno) -SEA- > Moz (Dark Tech, Hard Jungle) -SEA- > Silver(Dark Hard Jungle) -EUG- > > Downstairs: > > Jerm-E (Booty House, Hardcore, Hard House) -PDX- > DjCia (Speedkore, Breakore, DarkJungle) -SEA- > unknown23 (Experimental Hardcore) -NYC- > Orguss (Live Gabbertech) -SEA- > Naha (Hardcore) -SEA- > DankRag (Hardcore, Hard House) -EUG- > Marcus (Hardcore & HipHop) -PDX- -- colin 7/15: Premium Resistance -La Quena, Vancouver http://mediacore.org/premium/premium-small.jpg http://mediacore.org / 604.682.3269/ext.3249 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: darkstep-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: darkstep-help@hyperreal.org From darkstep-return-481-archive-darkstep=hyperreal.org@hyperreal.org Thu Jul 13 19:59:52 2000 Return-Path: Delivered-To: archive-darkstep@hyperreal.org Received: (qmail 29173 invoked by uid 250); 13 Jul 2000 19:59:48 -0000 Mailing-List: contact darkstep-help@hyperreal.org; run by ezmlm Precedence: bulk X-No-Archive: yes list-help: list-unsubscribe: list-post: Delivered-To: mailing list darkstep@hyperreal.org Received: (qmail 29161 invoked from network); 13 Jul 2000 19:59:47 -0000 Message-ID: <20000713195946.9602.qmail@web2902.mail.yahoo.com> Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2000 12:59:46 -0700 (PDT) From: rando To: rando@earthalliance.com MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Subject: [darkstep] E*L*E*M*E*N*T*S :: Jon-e [PolarEyes, NY] :: WeEkly-DnB-fUsioN _Elements:: WeEkly-DnB-fUsioN_ This Thursday, July|13|2000:: Jon-e [PolarEyes, NY] Old school junglist Jon-e will be laying down his patented selection of beats for a special closing sets at Elements tonight.
