First off, apologies from the ELEMENTS crew, due to inexplicable traffic coming into the city from the airport, we were unable to get FIERCE to the Phoenix in time for a set there, however, I am sure his set in the infamous SOMERVILLE loft space more than filled the appetite of any and all that attended. Ok, I will dive right into the meat of this story and cut the bullshit....... So it is about 9:15 when I showed up at Bill, Lenore and Matt's house last night. I was in a good mood, so when Bill asked me to go with Matthew and Nicole to pick up FIERCE at the airport I was more than glad. That was my first mistake. We get to the airport 10 minutes before his arrival time of 9:47. TEAM FIERCE is looking good...... I jump out of the car to go ask the the information desk about his flight. ME: "Yeh, I just wanted to check on Flight 1689.." LADY: "Ahh yes sir, they will be taking off from Philedelphia any minute now" ME: "Say What!?, it hasn't taken off yet?!" LADY: "Yes, there was a delay, it will be arriving at 10:57" ME: "NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!" After getting some Dunkin D's and watching the delay progress from 50 minutes to about an hour and a half, we started to get restless in the airport, we still had some time to wait, and at best we were gonna get Fierce there at midnight for a one hour rinse. That's when Matthew spotted the wheelchairs. All three of us proceeded to get into wheelchairs and have races around the airport. At first we were a little apprehensive about security getting upset with us, but after the 3rd or 4th guard walked by yawning, we decided that we were probly not the first geniuses to come up with the "lets have a wheelchair race in the airport" idea. As we got progressivley bolder, things got more interesting. BY the time that hour had passed we had had an extended race around the entire terminal, swerving through people to the airport radio playing CHARIOTS OF FIRE (this was a very emotional moment for matthew) AND riden the elevator up 4 floors only to race back down to the first using only the car ramps in the PARKING GARAGE! (this was in fact very dangerous and nicole almost lost here life to a median strip on a downward ramp) So 11:30 finallly arrives and we meet FIERCE aka dan burke. We jump in the car, and no sooner does Nicole pack a bowl to lite up Dan (her designated assignment in TEAM FIERCE), do we realize that we have a fifteen minute wait just to get out of the f'in parking garage. When we finally get on the highway we see backed up traffic all the way through the sumner tunnel. WE WERE IN THE SUMNER TUNNEL FOR 45 MINUTES!!!! My greatest concern for the last fifteen minutes of my time in the tunnel was to make sure I did not puke on anyone. The goddamn exhaust fumes were too much for my two beer and medium ice coffee stomach. We finally arrived at the Phoenix it was exactly one o'clock.. how that for timing, luckily, a wonderful girl named Janet, who lives in a large loft in the Sommerville/Charleston area opened her home for the FIERCE rinse out. I couldn't even go because god damn exhaust fumes had made me so sick. Well that is my story, and once again sorry for anyone who didn't make it to the loft in Somerville! peace tha rando == randy j shepherd aka the rando live sets -----> http://jungle.ffwd.com/advance/ endless site --> http://members.tripod.com/~endlesspage < [ b o s t o n m a s s .| v e ] > _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Just got me self a new s5000 Akai (gives me better sex then any gf had) And im about to decide to dump my last 2 synths and buy one really nice virtual analog synth (jp8080 or a Virus) for those sounds I cant generate with FM synth. :) Once I get my dsp card for my s5000 no one will ever see me again.... Of course my dream is to unload my mixing board and get a nice DR16 from akai with a DLX16 contoller. of course that is a few grand (like 6) and I need money for a house. (sucks being an adult). My name is Bob Carr and I'm a 26-year old Mass Communications student at Southeastern Louisiana University......in addition, I also have a show on the college radio station called MONOCHROME, featuring local and regional DJs....... I used to live in Florida (home of funky breaks and not much else) so I became a bit disenchanted with that scene. Started to get into D&B around early '94. Labels I admire are: Precision, Renegade Hardware, Trouble On Vinyl, Position Chrome, Ram, and any of the other "majors" putting out the darker stuff. Please refrain from snickering as I DO live in the state of Louisiana, where we're always 9-14 months behind and I have to get most of my albums via mailorder.......... Anyway, I hope to continue hearing from the rest of you and I look forward to the lively discussions that are sure to follow. One more thing, I've begun to become very interested (read: economically) in getting into the production side of things. I was wondering if any of you are currently operating in this capacity (full or part-time) and if so, what types of equipment lend themselves to creating darkstep sounds. I understand that some people have the ability to get what they want out of ANY piece of equipment they have, but I'd like to get perhaps a concensus on what generally will aid in one's ability to put out this type of music (samplers, synths, etc.) Thanx in advance!!! For the logest time I been meaning to move to Cali or NC where for a tech like me I can break the 6 figure's in salary if I do, but i love my music to much to even attept to move out of an area where I have acess to the dark/techstep and the hardcore/gabber I enjoy. Call it stupid to stay for the music but maybe when im older (35-40) have a family I might but 24 year old bah... But i admire poeple like you and others who live in area's where exposure to that music isnt common yoet you make the effort to get the "good" music and not follow the "trend" of what is going on. peace & war and hardcore -- ******************************************************************** Robert Skinner skinner{at}skinner[dot]org Black Monolith Records Gabber List Administrator Things To Come Records Darkstep List Administrator -------------------------------------------------------------------- Skinner's Personal Ego http://www.skinner.org Black Monolith Records http://www.blackmonolith.com Things To Come Records http://www.thingstocome.com Gabber List http://www.gabberlist.org DarkStep List http://www.darkstep.org ******************************************************************** From darkstep-owner-darkstep-archive=hyperreal.org@hyperreal.org Thu May 27 02:29:55 1999 Return-Path: Delivered-To: darkstep-archive@hyperreal.org Received: (qmail 27712 invoked by uid 6000); 27 May 1999 02:29:53 -0000 Received: (qmail 27699 invoked from network); 27 May 1999 02:29:51 -0000 Received: from confusion.skinner.org (root@209.3.31.16) by taz.hyperreal.org with SMTP; 27 May 1999 02:29:51 -0000 Received: from confusion.skinner.org (skinner@confusion.skinner.org [209.3.31.16]) by confusion.skinner.org (8.9.3/8.9.2) with ESMTP id WAA36551 for ; Wed, 26 May 1999 22:39:20 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from skinner@skinner.org) Date: Wed, 26 May 1999 22:39:17 -0400 (EDT) From: S K I N N E R To: DarkStep Mailing List Subject: (DARKSTEP) Non-member submission from MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=X-UNKNOWN Content-Transfer-Encoding: QUOTED-PRINTABLE Sender: darkstep-owner@hyperreal.org Precedence: bulk ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: 27 May 1999 02:06:19 -0000 A BeatCamp offering ...........
