Hey.
I've got more bills to pay. So I'm auctioning stuff, including AFX
"Analogue Bubblebath 3" CD, "Datacide II" (Atom Heart/Tetsu Inoue) CD on
FAX, Global Comm. "Maiden Voyage" CD5 (both halves), Orb "Orscure Trax" CD,
the limited edition LP of Beaumont Hannant's "Texturology," and other stuff
that is less relevant to this list.
See http://www.monkey.org/~laps/bid.html for lastest info, or e-mail me for
the list of stuff if you can't get at my page. I'll trade any item on my
list for "I.F." CD on FAX (PS 08/33).
Thanks.

i don't know but i played the album for a friend of mine who is a very big
perez prado head and he traced dozens of samples back to pp tracks. did
krupa ever play with any of his orchestras?
on another note i picked up _fonosandwich_ yesterday and must agree with
the dissenting opinions on this one...probably the weakest atom heart
rather interestng release to date. sounds like a compilation of tracks that
got cut from earlier ah releases; you can almost pinpoint which album it
didn't quite make it onto ("sonic tonic" from _machine paisley_; "donut"
from _silver sound_; "inverted foods" from _bass_; "eat my chillie" from
_monotm_). there are a couple tasty tracks, but most of 'em have the
distinct flavor of leftovers (is that the metaphor here, uwe?)...

a good friend of mine has told me he refused to listen to any of the recent
Atom Heart. In his opinion Atom Heart is "overproducing" music. At times I
agree with this, listen to some of the tracks on H.A.T and compare to
Morphogenetic Fields and you know what I mean.
speaking of Morpho, what would you guys say is anything like Morpho that
uwe has released, to me it is his best. the RI stuff is just soo much

Uwe has produced some absolutely amazing tracks but he also has produced
some lemons too. It comes from the fact that he puts out sooooo much work.
I think what he should do instead of trying to put out a release every
month (thats about what it is right?)is he should do 4 or so totally tight
incredible records(like Senor Cocunut and Shellglove) a year. I personally
think the man is a genius, I just don't think he should air his dirty
laundry if you know what I mean ?;)

The only place I know of is Isolation Tank, but they have a $4.50 flat rate
shipping (which means the buyer is almost compelled to order more and more
and more and...) what a scam! But that may explain why they are one of the
few to have it still in stock. (You should see their prices for RI

[From "Real Groove" August 1997:]
ATOM HEART & PETE NAMLOOK
Jet Chamber 3
(Fax)
Along with Plug's "Drum and Bass For Papa", this album does more than any
other I've encountered to blow the stink off the rotting corpse of drum 'n'
bass, a genre which has become a religion to its adherents and scared
everyone else off. Anyone who loved the Nonplace Urban Feild remix album
"Golden Star" will love Jet Chamber 3, a record designed for listening, and
one which eschews all the trademarked underachieving of the drum 'n' bass
mainliners. Atom Heart (German electronics boffin who toured Australia
with NUF's Burnt Friedmann, but didn't quite make it down here) teams up
with Faxlabel owner and Ambient guru Pete Namlook for collaboration which
escapes the somnambulant nature of much of the Fax catalogue. Two of the
five tracks are over 20 minutes long, but they miraculously never outstay
their welcome. Tricky beats lay the ground work, over which the two
boffins use their experience to sculpt subtly hook-laden progressions.
"Dub In," for instance, uses a particularly ugly (but compelling) guitar
riff reminiscent of avante-pop masters This Heat. The twist? The ugly
riff is taken far back into the mix, creating an almost excruciating tease:
the riff is a killer precisely because it's NOT in your face. The piece is
an absolute masterpiece of genre-transgression and shows the Chemical
Brothers and their ilk for the club-footed fools they are; in its prolonged
but beautiful course we are treated to some perfectly simple electric piano
tinkling, and even some jazz guitar, but integrated ornamentation, far from
the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach favoured by today's pop kids.
Sustained brilliance.

My first fax disc was Bedroom. Dozens of Faxes later, i *expect*
a fax disc to be excellent. :)

Yes, there are. And they both have extra-cool photos of large
engines on the cover. I was disappointed the JC3 didn't follow
suit. Both 1 & 2 are really good, but very different from 3.
3 is very...uhhh... "urban" sounding. 1 & 2 are dark,
rhythmic, and spacey as hell, and perfect for reading science
fiction. I think 2 is my favorite, prolly b/c of Inner Rotation.
What a track! Anyways, welcome to the Chambers of Jet.

There is a 1 and a 2... 1 is probably the best, for different reasons that
(apparently) make 3 good. 1 and 2 are completely different to 3, I can't

Ye seem to forget who Datacide is ..Even in the Pod land Tetsuo refuses
to succomb to Nosebleeed et all. During this period is wea Uwe who was
obsessed with the sonic experience and it was through this experience that
Uwe began to shift to a kinder more gentle approach to sound. So in a
nutshell yes much of this cd is beautiful nosebleed but it also has a much
more gentle side. Tracks which endure much longer than the heavies. Such
tracks include "OM". This piece is a subtle analoge distorted 303 piece
that threats to explode yet simply refuses and leaves the listener in a
daze.
Even for Ambienteers like yourself will find pleasure between the bursts
of noise.

I think all the Pod stuff is easy enough to get hold of in the UK. Of
course this is a bit of a last resort, with prices being so shite-high
here, but still - the offer stands. Any mothers who *need* any Pods (and
why would you?) are welcome to give me a shout. Trades might work out

Well.
A friend was over the other night and I was doing the usual thing...
bragging about how ATOM HEART is the shit, and how he [Uwe] releases around
at least one full-length album each month, and... well, basically how
everyone should check his stuff out. I unloaded all of the AH/related
discs I have onto the floor for him to look through, and my friend asked,
"So how many albums does ATOM HEART have anyway?".
You know, I never really counted them. So I decided to go ahead and
do just that. By my estimate, there are currently fifty-two full-length
albums.
Below are what I consider as either solo releases as well as all full-

out of the five tracks), the SENOR COCONUT album (is this Uwe or not?), as

Interesting. It doesn't *sound* like Om but there is a song named
"Om" on it.
> Even for Ambienteers like yourself will find pleasure between the
> bursts of noise.
Well, i like some noise. It's just that there's so much crap
noise that i try to find people who do noise well and steer clear
of the rest. :zoveit*france: is one good example. Now nosebleed
noise is different for me, b/c whereas someone like :z*f: will
use a hands-on creative approach to making noise (ie pushing pins
through source tapes) i don't so much admire putting fast
drum-sequences through distortion boxes (ie JCTV/How Many Angels
on Render) as just about anyone with a basic drum machine and
a few guitar peddles can do this fairly easily.
You draw an interesting point though, periods of noise make the
the soothing parts that much more soothing. Sorta the same
principle as coming out of a theatre in the daytime and being
blinded by sunlight that isn't all that bright during picnics.

As someone who does tinnitus research, i'd say that's good advice.
Ok let's get serious here. Parts of Organic Cloud and Slow & Low,
and well, even Masters of Psychedelic Ambience are extremely
noisey, but tie you up in the intensity rather than annoy you with
it (ok so "annoy" is a relativistic term, just cut me some slack
and work with me here). I think Tetsu's work, aside from working
well as excellent post-rave chill-out muzak for mixmedia
moodswing, almost always gives some kind of emotional
satisfaction. It ranges from the spaced-out drift of Holy Dance
to the forboding Night In Goa to the cryptic Static Soul. It's
alien yet familiar, comforting yet disturbing, and dark yet
silly. I've also noticed that many of the great sounds that come
out on his albums sound almost random in nature, spontaneous and
unplanned. And yet the journey that every Tetsu album takes
the listener through seems carefully planned, meticulously
constucted to bring the most out of all the little sounds that
pass us by seemingly unnoticed.

Me too. Any word on that there reissue lately?
Inspired by CM's count of all the Atom Heart full-lengths, i took
the liberty of counting all the full-length Tetsu discs:
Datacide x 4
Shades of Orion x 3
2350 Broadway x 3
Fax solo albums x 3
Zenith
Cymatic Scan
2nd Nature
Electro Harmonix
62 Eulengasse
Time^2
MU
OM
World Receiver
That makes a grand total of 22 distributed across 5 labels.
Only one has been on Fax in the last two years.
Am i missing any here? I know this is only a fraction of
what Master Heart releases, but Tetsu is certainly prolific
by most standards, particularly given the amount of time they
were released in. Hey Charles, where is that Audio disc we've
been waiting for? :) Also, is there anything else other
than the Kato Hideki collab on Tzadik and "Instant Reply"
that we should watch for!? I am asking b/c i am constructing
a pretty webpage for Tetsu since no one else seems to have done
it, and i need some more info.

"Ambiant Otaku" is my favourite, too. Too bad "they" don't have plans
(apparently) to reissue this beauty on the heavenly Ambient World label.
It has the potential to do much better in the way of sales than the AW
reissue of the critically-acclaimed "2350 Broadway" -- which is one of
the most surreal ambient albums ever released (IMO).
Tetsu and Jonah also have a *great* but hard to find album (in the USA)
that came out in the Summer of '96 called "Instant Replay," which is
available on the German EMI Elektrola label.

Well... I intentionally left that out because I saw it as more of an
e.p.-type release than an actual full-length album. Then again, I've never
seen/heard it so I don't really know. Anyone wanna sell me theirs? Oh you
know it baby! ;}
Anyway, I hope I didn't make anyone all depressed with that list.
Amzingly enough I've only been into Uwe since the end of '94 as of a few
months ago, I finally got pretty much all of his full-lengths. So it is
possible... if that's the challenge you want to take on. Now my wants are
only the superextremelyultra-rare items, like: "Immaculate", "Cloned:
Binary", "The Engineers Love", "Music Without Purpose" (I can accept not
ever getting this one obviously), and that new limited-to-ten-copies AH cd
that came out earlier this month (I guess then that actually makes it
fifty-three full-lengths then). I'm still working on the last item. ;}

Cool. Nice list. Thanks for typing those out. Uwe may catch up to Namlooks
90+ full lengths albums soon as Peter seems to be slowing down a bit. Uwe
and Peter will surely go down as two of the most prolific artists ever
before they retire from music, if not the two most prolific. It seems like
they haven't been at it that long either. What I really like about both is
the great variety of styles. It rarely gets boring for me going from one
album to the next. Even if there are some not so interesting tracks on
certain releases there is usually a good portion of almost every release
that is interesting

Indeed, Tetsu Inoue / Jonah Sharp -- "Instant Replay" (EMI Electrola)
(7243-8-55033-2-0) came out sometime last year as I bought it around
September, unless I've experienced a timewarp by listening to too much

no, farmer's manual is not an ah-related project. they are an experimental
music collective from vienna (maybe a trio, maybe more) who make
exceptionally great weirdo electronic noise for the mego label. like some
of uwe's more minimal, fuzzier stuff, i suppose, and with a similarly
humorous bent, but still quite a bit different...

As well as being the very first LB full-length (pre-"Matter"), this is
also Uwe's very first solo effort. It was a cassette-only album, released
in 1988 on his N.G. Medien label (co-run by Olaf Finkbeiner, in Germany).
The only thing Uwe appeared on before this was the PORNOTANZ album,
"Immaculate", in 1986. This release was also cassette-only, and on the
same label.
These two are *extremely* difficult to find... I would imagine though
that you'd have an easier time locating a copy than I would (being in the
U.S. and all). I've never even seen it, much less heard even a dub.

I know no one with a copy of this disc. Again, I would imagine it'd
be easier for you to find it in Europe than it would be for me to find one

Oops! In my defense, I saw mention of it on this list a while back, then

Strangely enough, there are also fifty-three. Hm. Anyway, the only item I

Nah. I'd imagine that either the `buyer' is either one of Uwe's
buddies (Pete, Tetsu, etc), or it wasn't actually even sold at all. If I
remember correctly, it seemed to have come and gone within less than a
month. I suppose it's better that it's not still available though... it'd
be annoying knowing that it was there but you just couldn't have it.
I wonder if it's anything special musicwise? Is it a CD-R, or does it
have actual packaging, etc? Is it old or new stuff? Whatever possessed
Uwe to release only one? Why the insane price?

At this point, I'd even take a dub on tape. The same goes for the
other items I had mentioned. Just to hear 'em, y'know? I mean, most all
this stuff will never see the light of day again, and it just kills me
knowing that some guy in Franfurt's probably driving around with a copy of
"The Engineer's Love" warped by the day's heat, stuck to the car's floor,
underneath a pile of food wrappers, with Coke spilled all over it.

Yeah. Right now we've only got the `condensed' version on the
hyperreal site, the `Grocery-List' (which is basically just an updated

Sure you do, Chris. Although I'm not planning to part with it, I'll tell
you this: It's of limited use unless you own a sampler. Although it does
provide some insight into the _Cloned_ CD. I had a fun weekend right after
I got _Cloned_ and _Cloned: Binary_, creating a re-clone of my own. I was
only able to send it to Uwe maybe a year ago. He seemd a bit flattered and
appreciated the effort, but for many obvious reasons that is where it must
end.
_Cloned_ and _Cloned: Binary_ were originally issued on Contempo (which no
longer exists, though possibly it's been reorganized under a different
name). _Cloned: Binary_ was limited to 500 copies and was not reissued in
the US like _Cloned_ was.

ChikaChika.
I received the Japanese releases of both "Ondas" and "Trio De Janeiro"
through a wonderful trade the other day. They're both on the DaisyWorld
label (their third and fourth releases). A little different appearance-
wise, but not by much.
The "Ondas" is layed-out a bit better... the track listing has been
shifted so you can actually read it in a glance (top-to-bottom). Otherwise
everything else is the same. Inside comes a nifty insert which includes
transcriptions (in both Japanese and English) of all vocals/spoken word
segment(s)/samples on the album... even the Dandy Jack schmeal.
"Trio De Janeiro" looks the same as its original [German] issuance
too. Same type of extra insert as with "Ondas"... no interesting aspects
to it though. Um... except of course that there are two bonus tracks
exclusive to this Japanese cd! Hey, cool. The two extra songs are:
"Tempo Feliz" and "Song For Frank Brown". "Tempo Feliz" sounds more like
something straight off of the DaisyWorld sampler cd than LCT. "Song For
Frank Brown" is heavy on the bass and goes well with the rest of the album.
The two are very b-side sounding, as if more time were taken on them
production-wise(?).
The very beginning/intro of "Tempo Feliz" can be heard on my answering
machine at the moment. Less than mono baby. Dial 1-(813)-935-4111 to hear
it. Pretty hi-tech, hm? Anyway, I dig the extra tracks.
I wonder who `Frank Brown' is?

Actually, it's James Brown's lesser known younger brother - a demon on
the bagpipes.
Seriously tho' (SORRY!) I have been noticing this affection for "brown"
quite a bit lately too. AH also connects it with Vitamin C. Has this got
anything to do with a Vitamin C tablet (with a brown stain on one side)
my friend had recently?
Also one thing that was omitted on the recent AH tally was the Australian
live tape (which I'm beginning to think may be useful in the Lisa Carbon id
problem). I emailed the people who made it a while ago to no response. If
anyone's interested I could make a dub but it may take a while as my tape-
deck is broken (tape somehow jammed inside). Perhaps trade for a dub of
some classic out of print 12"/eps.
I could get peeps a copy of that Beauty Forward compilation, if anyone's
still interested and having problems getting it. It's quite a grower.
Perhaps again a trade?
I am looking for the following AH CDs:
--I should have bought them all when I had the chance :(
ATOM HEART Shellglove
MASTERS OF Mu Schmidt/Inoue
PSYCHEDELIC AMBIANCE
VSVN Very Synthetic Virtual Noise
(Orange and/or Couer Atomique would be good but that may be pushing it)
[why do I feel like I'm writing to Santa Claus?]
I think I sould be able to get on CD:
DOTS Elevator Music Schmidt
FLEXTONE Flextone Schmidt
ATOM HEART Morphogenetic Fields
(I agree - this is a very cool cd)
+ live tape & beauty forward

Ok, maybe I'm wrong and have been mis-pronoucing his name all these years,
but how is the name Uwe pronouced? (yes, I'm too embarrassed to ask) I've

1) Ou-vay (rhythming with hurray)
2) You-v (rhythming with move)
3) You-ie (rhythming with Huey)
4) You (as in the letter U)
Any other versions out there? :-) Maybe I should just continue calling him

While I was driving home tonight Listening to Lassigue Bendthaus's Cloned,
I had an idea: Making a compilation of tracks made from samples from Atom
Heart (and related project's). It seems like it might work because a) Uwe
has such a pro-sampling approach to music, b) There is soooooo much source
material to use, c)because most AH releases are MACOS products, there
wouldn't be alot of sample clearing involved d) it would just be pretty
cool disc.
Anyone got any feedback about this ??

Subject: (mother) nasa/vsvn
I got hold of a copy of vsvn the other day. In retrospect, I believe I
bought it mostly because the inverted nasa title was the raddest thing I
have seen since the cool gyroscope machine from the movie Contact.
Seriously tho, is vsvn only available on vinyl? Now I have to buy a
turntable to listen to the damn thing.
thanks,
jon
