I recently came accross this artist, Desktop Science, at MP3.com and
thought you all would likely be as impressed with the tracks as I was.
There are four (4) MP3 tracks (also available in streaming RealAudio) and
all have the quirky, bleepy, embedded sense of humor that Atom Heart has.
In fact Desktop Science lists Atom Heart and Rather Interesting as
influences (among many other great names), so there you go!

I see there is a track by Senor Coconut on the new SSR compilation,
Freezone 6. It's not from the RI release. Is this track one of the bonus
tracks that was on the Japanese issue of Senor?

Nope. This seems to be a new Senor Coconut song. Exelente! The pair
on the Japanese cd are "4-D Cha Cha" and "El Ovni Mambo".

Heya.
A local dj shop here in Gainesville has copies of _Fonosandwich_,
_Brown_,_Real Intelligence II_, and _Pentatonic Surprise_. I don't
remember their exact prices, but they were each priced differently running
in the range of $18.99 to $21.99 apiece (plus 6% sales tax). If anyone
wants a copy for themselves, please let me know and I'd be more than happy

My buddy Chris Meerbott has taken mp3s from some Beach Boys site (in
Sweden or Holland or somewhere), tracks from _Smiley Smile_, vinyl-only
stuff he has in his own collection, _Smile_-era tracks from verious
later-released Beach Boys albums, and some of the tracks from the boxed set
that came out a few years back... and put them together to make what he
(and the people on the Beach Boys page) thought would have been the logical
tracklisting if this album were finished. He burnt this onto disc for me
and I'm loving it. I really don't like the Beach Boys otherwise, but this
is niiiiice.

_Atomizer_. It will contain approximately 600mb of pure drum loops
exclusively produced for this release. I'm just pulling this from what was

From what I know about this series of compilations, they are put
together by Freibank Distribution to help promote the labels (and artists
on those labels) that they distribute in Europe. All of the songs featured
on these compilations are merely edited versions of their originals... just
a `sample' of the songs to help simulate a make-belive soundtrack for a
film. That's how they can fit 25 tracks onto one disc. I really doubt
either of the Senor Coconut tracks are exclusive (or different from the
album versions) like they claim them to be.

Um.
Anyone who has either the UK version of _Rising High Techo Injection_,
or the US disc for _Rising High Techno Injection 2_, please get in touch
with me. I need verification on tracklistings for the Ongaku and Bi-Face
songs, and their times.
Also, I'm stumped as to which version of "Mihon" is on these
compilations. I've been told that it says "Mihon #1" on the US cd, but the
track time (7:03) is much too long to be that song (4:48). The time also
doesn't match up with those of #2, #3, and/or #5. I haven't ever seen or
heard of "Mihon #4", so I'm thinking that's what song this actually is?! I
don't have this compilation, so I can't compare.
Ag. My trainspotting head is all muddled up. The discography's just
about done by the way. I just have to time the tracks on the Mike McCoy
records and then that's it. I'll make sure to post something here when
it's ready for viewing.

Mystery solved. Check out this mp3:
http://www.hyperreal.org/~mikew/ongaku.mp3.
It's simply an edited version of "Mihon #3". I'm thinking it was
edited down by Instinct Records for their _Rising High Techno Injection
Vol. 2_ cd? At the end it's missing a few minutes of the original track,
and instead has an abrupt ending.
If anyone here has the UK version of the [first] _Rising High Techno
Injection_ compilation, please e-mail me directly. I want to see if this
edit is on here too. Thanks.

Subject: (atom) Atom Heart Discography R.2.
Aaaaaaah.
The Atom Heart/Lassigue Bendthaus discography has finally been
completed. I want to say something before y'all drop off the face of the
Earth and spend hours stressing over it...
...please don't get depressed. I know he's released a shitload of
stuff over the past decade or so, but you've gotta be optimistic. I've
only been into AH since late 1994, and managed to acquire most all of his
full-lengths (I'm only missing five out of sixty-some, and they are the
absolute rarist), and over half of his vinyl-only eps. Even if you're just
now getting into his stuff, please don't think of it as a hopeless pursuit.
It's not like you're just starting to collect someone like Elvis or Depeche
Mode. Plus, you don't have to deal with multiple pressings and formats of
each release. I'm not going to kid you though... it's all as rare as shit.
And good! Even if you're not the collector-type, a large majority of
Atom Heart's catalogue is of good quality. It's worth seeking out
(especially his more recent output). If you're into his current albums on
R.I., you probably won't like his earlier techno/hardcore-era stuff. If
you're a Lassigue Bendthaus fanatic, you've learned with the release of
_Pop Artificielle_ that this project will never be the same. If you're
into his earlier RI output (like VSVN and Flextone), I'm not sure what
you'll think about the two extremes of Dr. Mueller or Naturalist. But then
again, if you're like me you'll like everything Uwe does... well almost
everything (right Tod?).
So keep your eyes peeled. Check the dollar bins (hell, I found _Dots_
for $5 sealed a few years back). Pay attention to the `lead' posts on the
mother-list. Subscribe to `Whitezone-l'. Scrounge through the hell that
calls itself rec.music.industrial, alt.music.techno, and rec.music.ambient.
There are people who own AH-related releases and don't appreciate them.
You just have to be patient and vigilant. And nowadays, have a large
wallet. Maybe I shouldn't have written that last line, hm?
So without further adieu, it's the same url you're already used to:
http://www.hyperreal.org/music/artists/atom_heart/
Thank you to everyone who has helped me compile this monster. Special
thanks go to Will Perez for putting the discography up for us to see.
Thanks to Mark Kolmar and Tod Boozer for helping keep my interest peaked.
Thanks to Kenn Sanders for filling most all of my AH-related vinyl wants
way back when. Thanks to Wallace Winfrey for keeping this list alive.
Thanks to Charlie for bringing inexpensive cds into my part of the world.
Thanks to Uwe for presenting the challenge. And thanks thanks thanks to
Howard Stelzer for forcing me to listen to _Render_ in the first place.
Hope you dig the discography.

Hiya.
I am looking for three VON MAGNET items and was wondering if anyone
here could please help me out?
1.) _Alma La_
This is one of their older cds from 1989 which was released
on the French I.N.9. label in conjunction with Zip Zap
Records/Danceteria France. One of the songs featured on
this album, called "Muneco", was engineered by Newman/Wells
(aka Greater Than One).
2.) _Von Meets GTO Remixes Magnet_
This was a 12" and cd single released on Danceteria which
featured two remixes by Newman/Wells (aka G.T.O.), entitled
"Teknov Rai" and "Trance Magnetik". I'm not sure of the year
of release for this one.
3.) >not sure of the title<
This was a cd single which featured a remix/remixes by
either Atom Heart or (most likely) Lassigue Bendthaus. I
have no information on this release.
Any leads would be greatly appreciated. I would even be happy with a
cd burn of the tracks in question. Also, if anyone knows *anything* about
the VON MAGNET release featuring the Lassigue Bendthaus mix, please get in
touch with me. Thank you.

Hm.
I was reading through the R.I. discography which Will-E
<will@panix.com> has (so elaborately) written, and I came to one
particular part at the very end which says:
> Being involved in various activitess ranging from design to music, the
> Frankfurt based mastermind Atom Heart finaly opened up his own audio
> playground called "Rather Interesting". With an output of one full
> length CD a month and very strong and unique concepts concerning music
> and design, Rather Interesting released it's first CD called "Flextone"
> September 1994.
So, my question is (and I can't believe no one else has brought this
up): Where in the hell does Uwe get the time and money to create/release
all of the shit he does? I mean, just look at the immensity of his back-
catalogue!
Is he of a wealthy family - a rich kid with a lot of time on his
hands? Maybe Arielle supports his habit? Does he have some monetary deal
worked out with Pete (of FAX)? Maybe he's got some drug cartel thing going
on with Lisa Carbon and Dandy Jack? `Mastermind' is right.
Or maybe his releases have all paid for themselves? I don't know
though... isn't it a musician's dream to be as productive as he is? How
can one man have so much time available to create? And where does the
money come from to be able to put *at least* one new cd out every month??
And they're mostly on his very own label (of which there are already
seventeen releases).
Shit... I mean, where does he come up with all of the dough to be
flying around the world like he does? I'm so damned curious.

I was in Atlanta this weekend for the Dead Can Dance show and of course
had to stop by several record shops. I noticed that two different shops
had a copy of Lisa Carbon Trio "Polyester" on vinyl. One was the same
place that I had gotten one months before. If you want a copy both places
do mail-order. I don't have either telephone number but by calling info
I'm sure they can give you the number. Both shops are in Five Points
Atlanta and the prefix area is "404". The shops are Satellite, which has a
copy in their "experimental section" along with several Cylob releases.
The other shop "Wax N Facts" or is it Wax n' Fax ...which one i can't
remember. But they had a copy filed under Carbon in the general vinyl
section. The store is 90% vinyl and i mean a shitload of it. The music is
generally catagorized in a Rock/alt section, electronic/soundtrack/urban...
But the carbon is in the Rock/alt section for some strange reason. I tell
you all this because they seem to like it when they donn't have to go
searchin' through all that fuckin vinyl. Sorry no cd copies available. I

matthew herbert records solo as herbert and doctor rockitt (on phono and
back2basics as the former; clear as the latter), as well as--together with
that guy from the horn--wish mountain (for global communication's evolution
imprint)...i checked my copy of his "ready to rockitt" ep and could find no
middle initial, so i can't confirm that's who mch is...
ian pooley is an english techno artist who's also done remixes for a number
of differnt well-known acts (including stacey "silent phase" pullen and ken

to dial any international number in the US, dial 011 first.
(the international symbol for this is a "+")
then the country code, which for Germany is 49
then the city code. In this case it would be 6039
The 0 prefix is their equivalent of our "dial 1 for long distance"
so in our case, this gets stripped out.
The rest is the phone number. So the final answer is:
011-49-6039/45406
I just sent them a fax so I know it works :)

Datacide 1 on Pod is hardcore techno + 2 short ambient tracks (?)
Datacide 2 on FAX is melodic ambience + 1 acid-house track
Datacide 3 on Rather Interesting is futuristic experimental ambience.
It is at times funny, at other times very powerful and ahead of its time.
Datadice 4 (Ondas) on Rather Interesting will probably be more like the
previous release and will be coming out later this fall.
the Datacide 12" on FAX contains nothing new. One side is the acid house
track and the other is an ambient track, both of which are on the FAX CD if
you can find a copy.

Not sure about this one, one of those funny afternoon, drowsy thoughts...
How about MC Heart
^^ ^
Wasn't MC used for Microphone Controller or something, which at a stretch
might have something to do with the electro stuff? Probably way off, but
it's the best I've come up with!

Hai.
I'm not going to forward it here due to it's length, but there was a
very very informative and well-composed interview with Tetsu Inoue which
was cross-posted onto both the Ambient and the Fax-lists earlier today.
The interview was conducted by Sean Cooper <scooper@best.com>, with help
from Steve Boyer <sboyer@violet.berkeley.edu> from what I gather.
The reason I am mentioning this here is because the conversation
occasionally touches on Tetsu's collaborations with Uwe, their
compositional habits/practices, and at one point even mentions how they
originally met. If you would like to see it for yourself, please e-mail me
and I will *gladly* send it out to you. Otherwise, it's on this
(following) page for all eternity:
http://violet.berkeley.edu/~sboyer/TInt.html
Also for those of you way on the other side of the continent from
myself, Steve Boyer notes:
> I just recently completed production of the interview (appropriately
> enough, some of it was editied digitally). A condensed version will be
> aired on KALX Berkeley, 90.7 FM under the auspices of my show _Radio

Hi.
This was posted on the Ambient list yesterday along with some other
Fax reviews (I've edited it for relevant content obviously):

::: Pete Namlook & Atom Heart "Jet Chamber 2" (fax)
Inner Rotation / Calm Box / Outer Rotation
Thankfully Atom Heart gets some control of the decks this time, as this
recording is an immense improvement over last year's mediocre Jet Chamber.
Easily the best track on the disc, "Inner Rotation" allows Atom Heart to
slather on layers of dark, bleepy, bass heavy percussion while Namlook
compliments the beats with his trademark dark and spooky melody. The music
evolves and grows; an incredible piece of electronic work oozing with
intelligent sequencing and slick production. Then enter "Calm Box," lengthy
chillout session providing the listener with a chance to regain
consciousness before the second bombardment of Atom Heart's trademark
percussion in "Outer Rotation." This time the beats are harder, faster,
quirkier and more spontaneous then before. In all, "Jet Chamber" is a well
crafted piece of electronic music, and worthy of repeated listenings.

Yeah, it's gotta be. There were quite a few typos in that FS posting.
Speaking of... did anyone on this list get that DATACIDE 12" or the COEUR
ATOMIQUE cd from that other FS posting?

Iain pooley & Thomas Garlech were once known as Space Cube and did some of
the greatest breakbeat/acid masterpieces I ever heard (check out old
"rauschen" compilations on force inc.) Nowdays Garlech is known as DJ Tonka
and is doing not so brilliantly as ahouse producer on force u.s and on
temple records, Iain pooley released an LP few months ago on Force Inc and
IMHO his golden days are a thing of the past. The Electric Ladyland I & II
compilations on Mille Plateaux got couple of excellent tracks by Ian Pooley
so check those out.
btw, I believe he's german and not enlgish.

Psyche, it's still not here yet. But, since I'm like *TOTALLY* jonesin'
for some new AH material...can someone who's got a copy give us a track by
track review? I don't intend you to write up a Masters Thesis about it,
just something short, sweet and to the point. Yes I am a rather
interesting junkie.
here's an example of what I'm looking for:
1. 7:27 (<-does it have track names as well?)
Mmm, a logical progression from the Silver Sound/BASS era, mildly funky
with superior stereo effects and wild spasmotic blasts of tiny tim
snares.
2. 26:05 (<-are there any "epic" cuts?)
Much in the vein of epic Flowerhead excursions, like watching the pot
plants on your back porch grow, achingly slow but delightful still.
and so on and so on ...
Thanks of all the lists I'm subbed to, mother knows best!
