7 10 8 Y Y Y Lo halcyon is a vinyl shop and a coffee bar/cafe with a really cool retro lounge set up. The place is equipped with a killer system and there are always good DJs spinning and people hanging out. The vinyl selection is eclectic, ranging jazz to funk to hip-hop to house to techno to d 'n' b. Other oddities and interesting selections abound. You can tell just by the way the vinyl is displayed (all records, new and used are cleaned, bagged and well organized) that these guys have deep respect for the music and really their stuff. If you like to get lost in the bins and listen to deep selections from the history books - this is your shop. The listening stations are also really comfy and no one gives you attitude about how many tracks you preview. The food at the cafe is also worth checking out as are the selection of retro 'artifacts' from 50's - 70's that decorate the place (and are also for sale). Check out halcyon - it is the only place of its kind that I know of and well worth the trip to Brooklyn (only three subway stops in on the F line).

6 N/A N/A Y Y Y Lo This store is really great for used indie rock, hip hop, rap, reggae, but especially for ambient, techno, trance, trip hop, acid jazz and other electronic music. If you want really great assistance on the electronic stuff, ask for Zoriah, an electronic musician himself.

7 10 10 Y Y Y Lo All I have to say, is stop by this Ultra East Village shop. A 1500sq.ft Loft with 13' Ceilings and Large 8' Windows overlooking Saint Marks Place. The selection is small, but its growing. Excellent back stock, and all the current newies. Direct Contacts with Overseas Labels, Artists, Record Pools, and Distributors make for the selection UNIQUE! Stuff that the others don't or won't carry. Check out their growing 'Classics Electronica' bin. If your into Latin & Afro Cuban Jazz, they also have a nice selection of stuff. The thing that I like the most about this store is the GEAR! They don't stock alot of stuff, but they can get just about anything you want the next day and at a good price. Not much on the web site, but I was told it is almost finished and we better watch out (Netcasts, MP3 Downloads, etc...). Definately a Store to look out for! Oh ya, on Saturdays, they're having parties on the underground tip. Strictly by invite only. So, if you want to be invited stop by the shop and pick up an invitation. The Roster includes DJ Silver, Dinky J, Jessie System, Swingsett, and c2. Plus many special guests on the Live Electronic Tip. Almost forgot... they also fix 1200s, as well as sell all the parts and stuff. Check out their 1200s web site: http://1200s.com ENJOY!
